SSE Renewables plans a 1.8GW pumped hydro energy storage (PHES) project at Loch Fearna, Scotland, UK, led by Gilkes Energy. It involves tunnels and a new power station connecting Loch Quoich and Loch Fearna, aiming for 37GWh storage capacity, exporting energy for 20 hours at 1.8GW. Commercial operations could start in the mid-2030s pending a final investment decision.
